1. Exploring Alternative Careers for Engineers even-TODAY(April 26th)

 

Exploring Alternative Careers for Engineers

When:     Wednesday, April 26 from 4:10 to 6:00 p.m.

Where:   Career Services, Building 124/Room 117

 

Engineering students: Have you ever thought about pursuing a career in a non-engineering role either right after you graduate or further along in your career? If so, you don’t want to miss this event!

 

Career Services will showcase a panel of four professionals who all studied engineering in college, but are now working in non-engineering roles. Come hear about these professionals’ career paths and discover additional career possibilities. We will showcase teaching, consulting, sales, and project management as alternatives, but there are endless career possibilities out there for engineers!

 

Immediately following the panel presentation, you will have the opportunity to network with these featured panelists until 6:00 p.m.:

4. Co-op Opportunity For Graduate Students in Engineering

The Mechanical Circulatory Support division of Abbott (formerly St Jude Medical) in Pleasanton, CA is the world leader at implant heart pump technology for advanced heart failure patients. We have a co-op opening for undergraduate (senior standing), MS and PhD students in

mechanical/biomedical engineering  major for July-December, 2017. Summer intern might be considered as well.

 

We are looking for creative, hands-on, self-driven, and detail-oriented students who are interested in the medical devices industry.

This position will provide practical engineering work experience with engineers involved in implantable medical device product design and process improvement.

This is a full-time position: 40 hours/5 days a week.

5. Healthcare Panel Discussion Invitation

 

Hi all,

 

Are you at all interested in learning about improvements efforts in the healthcare field? Have you thought about pursuing a career or can see yourself in a future role in the improvement of healthcare delivery? We would love to invite you to please join us for a Healthcare Improvement Panel discussion on Wednesday, April 26th in Building 192-220 from 6:30-7:30 pm to learn about opportunities for engineers in the healthcare field. Several healthcare professionals will be attending and sharing their previous experiences with healthcare improvement and current challenges in the field. The panelists will be here to help answer any questions you may have so please come with any questions for the following speakers:

William Ivers - Reports Manager for Community Health Centers of the Central Coast (CHC)

6. QL Plus Student Association Announcements

 

Quality of Life Plus Student Association 

 

QL+ SA is a multidisciplinary student run association dedicated to improving the lives of those in need. We run a variety of developmental workshops and projects throughout the year to support engineering students. This quarter, we’ll be hosting a quarterly design project, as well as a few workshops and socials. 

 

Our general meetings are every Tuesday from 6-7PM in our lab in building 192. 

 

Southern California Edison Info Session

On May 11 QL+ is hosting a Southern California Edison information session. Representatives from the company will be there to provide insight into the types of opportunities available in the company as well as answer questions.

Call for Challengers

The QL+ mission is to foster and generate innovations to aid and improve the quality of life of those injured in the line of duty.

 

QL+ is currently seeking challenges for the 2017/18 school year.  These challenges can originate from a specific person with a challenge.  They can also be generated based on a need of many in the veteran community. 

 

If you know of a challenger or would like to propose a senior level project for consideration we would like to hear from you. By proposing an idea it would allow you to potentially design a project based on your interest.

We have two coed intramural teams this quarter! 

Indoor Volleyball on Sunday evening and Flag Football on Tuesday evening. If you're interested in playing please email us for more information!
